Final Self – Reflection

I believe I have improved as a writer as a result of finishing the “writing for humanities and arts” course. I’ll be composing all of my completed works to show how they enhance my writing. Some of the works I will be including in this essay are revised and edited versions of my Introductory Poem, Interview, Op-Ed, and Grant Project Narrative Essay.

To demonstrate learning objective one which is to acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources, and draw on those resources to develop rhetorical sensibility. I will discuss the process of coming up with the questions for my interview. At first when I read the interview, I thought to myself I could just simply ask simple questions like “how old are you,” or “where are you from” . But I thought if I ask these simple questions , I will get in return simple answers like one word answers. So i had to take my time to come up with questions that will make my interview more interesting make the person being interviewed think that these questions are well asked which will make him/her open up to answer them honestly.

Learning objective two is to enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment. To demonstrate I will be providing some drafts I’ve written for the op-ed assignment.

Draft

“Discrimination is a huge issue in society against many ethnicities. But what is Discrimination?Discrimination is the unfair treatment of people and groups based on their race, gender, age, or sexual orientation. Discrimination can hurt people’s rights simply because of who they are and the color of their skin or religion. Discrimination can happen anywhere and to anyone. But this writing focuses on the people that get discriminated against the most in American society. Many people from all over the world believe that when they arrive in America, they will be able to live the American dream, but in fact, it will be a nightmare. Many groups, including those who have lived in America their whole lives, face prejudice when they arrive. For example, blacks are seen as violent, whereas Mexicans are targeted for bringing drugs into the country, and lastly Muslims are viewed for causing terrorist attacks across the world.”

To demonstrate learning objective three which is negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation i will be including my draft and final from my op-ed essay to demonstrate how i improved my writing

To demonstrate learning objective four which is to develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes. I will be including my group presentations link for  the grant proposal assignment which will show how our group worked together to show collaborative work.

To demonstrate learning objectives five  engage in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond. I will be discussing the grant proposal and how we came up with the mentoring program . When we rrea over the assignment of the grant proposal we had to come up with a program that will support a current group. So as a group we looked into different programs that could help different people in need. We first thought of making a program for homeless people like better housing. But then we decided to keep searching various programs until we came up with a middle school mentoring program. \

To demonstrate leasing objectives seven and eight which are   practice using various library resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources appropriate to your writing projects and strengthen your source use practices. When writing the grant proposal narrative , I used the ccny library to look for spires that will support my claim and also stated from these sources to support my claim and example will be from the grant proposal narrative “

Example using sources  and quoting

students living in poor communities are more likely to have dropouts as friends, which increases the likelihood of dropping out of school”. Furthermore, another source from “Daily News” states, “Only 54% of the kids who stuck around to attend high school in the district graduated within four years. 93% of the district’s students are economically disadvantaged; the power of learning is sometimes lost in the darkness of an unpaid electric bill”. These figures are from the Bronx, a surprising figure because about half of the students drop out, and nothing was said about it.
